Gradual renewal of fleets towards low-emission vehicles

The LOM requires companies with more than 100 light vehicles to meet certain quotas when renewing their fleets:

• 10 per cent low-emission vehicles from 2022
• 20 per cent in 2024
• 35 per cent in 2027
• 50 per cent in 2030 1

Eco-driving is one of the most cost-effective investments for optimising the management of a vehicle fleet. Its benefits are immediate, quantifiable and long-lasting, with a return on investment generally seen in less than six months. This educational approach aims to change driving habits in order to generate significant savings whilst improving road safety.

The fundamentals of eco-driving are based on three pillars: anticipation, smooth driving and control of engine speed. By anticipating traffic, unnecessary braking and acceleration are avoided; by maintaining a steady speed, fuel consumption is reduced; and by using the vehicle’s features wisely, engine strain is minimised. Effective training combines theory and practice, with sessions in real-world conditions followed by personalised support via on-board telematics.

Sales teams, who are often reluctant to devote time to this training, regularly see their fuel consumption fall by an average of around 12 per cent. The most dynamic drivers, who tend to accelerate sharply, sometimes become the best ambassadors for this approach, achieving monthly savings of up to €200. The benefits go far beyond fuel savings alone: a 10–15 per cent reduction in fuel consumption, a 20 per cent reduction in tyre wear, a 30 per cent reduction in braking costs, and a significant improvement in road safety.

What charging rates apply to different users in my company’s car park?

Charging rates may vary depending on the user: free for the company’s fleet, a preferential rate for employees, and the full rate for visitors.

Charging time depends on the vehicle model, its battery capacity and the power output of the charging point: 

• With charging points of <= 22 kW: charging time varies between 2 and 8 hours
• With fast-charging points: between 20 and 40 minutes.
